Outlining Frank's Online Casino Bill
Barney Frank is a bit of a hero to much of the online casino gambling industry
because of his unerring efforts to neutralize the UIGEA and instead propose more
internationally accepted US internet gambling policy. Frank renewed his
Congressional efforts just last month by pushing his latest bill into the
spotlight and putting it up for review by the House Financial Services
Committee. There are a lot of polarized opinions about the internet gambling
industry in the US and international market as foreign online casinos are still
feeling a bit burned by the protectionism inherent in the UIGEA. Frank’s bill
though really has some valid points and a strong case going for it mainly
because it’s passage would bring the US in accordance with a World Trade
Organization ruling from a couple of years ago.
Up until recently there was no clear indication of what changes Congressman
Frank may have made to his bill. At this point, the details of the bill have
been released and it seems that there are specific alterations in place that are
a direct nod to the individual sectors of the online casino gambling industry.
The sportsbetting industry is thankful that Frank’s bill has exclusions in place
so that this sector of the industry is exempt from the very tight restrictions
that are proposed to license and regulate the online casinos, should the bill
get passed.
This bill has gone through several revisions and it has to be said that his
latest bill is pretty solid. Frank’s efforts have bi-partisan support from
politicians and international support for foreign online casinos and other
nations affected by the UIGEA – there is at least a decent chance that the new
administration will pass this necessary internet gambling legislation. |
