Losing the Market
The United States state lotteries are on the defensive lately as new reports
indicate that even without the legalization of online casino gambling, this
sector of the industry has the potential to pull billions away from the lottery
sector. Then, with the threat of internet gambling becoming licensed and
regulated by the US government, the state lotteries are at a loss for how to
combat the popularity of the online casinos. The lottery seems to be a dying
sector of the industry – the game is hugely popular with the older generations
that grew up with the state lotteries and have had the game as a prominent part
of the way that they gamble. Newer generations though are a lot different – they
would vastly prefer the technology of online gambling.
This is a fact that needs immediate address by the US state lotteries if the
companies have any hopes of staying profitable. Online casinos are already
pulling funds away from the lotteries and this process will only continue if new
measures are not taken soon. First on the list is the need to reinvigorate the
market – lotteries need to find a marketing strategy, promotions, and games that
appeal to the younger generations. Additionally, new marketing efforts and
promotions would renew the enthusiasm of the generations that have long played
the state lotteries. With bigger efforts from the lottery companies there is a
chance that they can counter-act the loss of the gambling market to the online
casinos.
Another concern for the online casinos is the fact that would-be lottery players
are interested in the game but are, by and large, indicating a desire to play
the lottery online – this is a move that the state lotteries are not currently
in a position to contend with and will have to rectify if online gambling sites
are legalized in the coming years. |
