Less Privacy for More Protection
The online casino betting situation in Australia is one of those areas of
international concern in recent months – the Australian government is
considering all sorts of new and invasive regulations measures as a way to block
illegal gambling companies and supposedly keep Aussie gamblers safer.
Specifically, although internet betting is legal, the online casinos are still
strictly banned. As this situation continues to come to a head, the internet
betting industry is looking to up the safeguards and safety protection measures
that Australian betting companies have at their disposal to protect gamblers.
Major land and online betting operator, Betfair, has requested that the
Australian Productivity Commission change some of the current laws so that
internet betting companies will have limited access to public records.
The idea behind this is really quite simple – if the online casinos and internet
betting companies have access to closed personal and private public records they
can better protect consumers and block out underage gamblers from the sites.
Identity verification is a growing issue in the online casino gambling and
betting industries and the Australian companies are eager to have new procedures
in place that will not only provide additional protection to the gamblers, but
will also safeguard the internet gambling companies themselves.
Some of the proposed information requested by Betfair includes birth and death
records, marriage records, motor vehicle registration information, and a few
other only mild invasive matters of public record. With readily available access
to this information the online casino betting sites would better be able to
identify and control just who is gambling. This process is already highly
effective in other parts of the world, specifically the European market. |
