Casinos Provide Jobs
It is really easy for opponents of the land and online casino gambling industry
to point to all of the flaws in the industry – the problem gamblers and
increasing rates of debt and the such with addictive gamblers. There are issues,
there is no one saying that widespread gambling is the complete solution to
every problem. But, it is true that the land casinos are providing some valuable
jobs in the recessive US economy and are even continuing to fund state budgets.
The tax revenue that comes from the land casinos in the US is a really huge
positive for the industry. State governments are actually considering expansions
in land gambling because of the huge revenue potential.
Some really unexpected US states have either just revamped the gambling laws or
are looking to pass new regulations and legislation that would allow for a bit
more land gambling and betting in the state as a way to provide more tax revenue
coming into the state coffers. This may seem like an unwise stop-gap to some,
but already the US states that have legalized land gambling benefit from the
$5.66 billion that the land casinos and betting venues pumped back into the US
market.
Additionally, although the land casinos were not immune to the recession (Las
Vegas venues were forced to layoff a lot of employees over the past few months),
the land gambling industry in the United State is a major employer. There are
hundreds of thousands of employees involved in some part of the US land gambling
industry, even if it’s an affiliated sector. |
