Loosing Exclusivity
There is some pretty intense speculation in the online casino gambling industry
about the long-term viability of CryptoLogic – since the UIGEA put a strain on
the whole of the industry, CryptoLogic has had a pretty hard time recovering. In
the past couple of years, CryptoLogic has focused on changing the structure of
upper level management and focusing and narrowing the company’s strategy. All of
this seems as though it would be pretty positive – but in actuality it has
caused the company to fall behind some of the competition and to actually lose
its prestige among online casinos and operators. The biggest sting in the past
several months was the announcement from Playtech that it too now had licensing
rights to the Marvel comic book characters.
CryptoLogic previously held exclusive rights to the use of Marvel comic book
characters. Playtech though, taking advantage of a weakness in a competitor
scored a similar deal with Marvel and will now develop and release online casino
slots games with all of the same character and theme branding. The Marvel deal
was really the signature deal for the CryptoLogic – a major advantage over the
competition. But in the last several months the company made international
online casino gambling industry headlines because of the increasingly negative
situation with former CEO Javaid Aziz.
Playtech announced the new deal with Marvel just last month and plans to begin
rapid development on the new superhero themed games for release on the Playtech
platform. The deal has been a major coup for Playtech – arguably one of the most
innovative and progressive online casino software development company in the
world. |
