US Situation Analyzed
The US online casino gambling situation is one of those areas that has been
analyzed to no end it seems – but because the landscape of the US situation
continues to change, there is a need to continue watching the US government’s
actions. The most recent updates for this year is undoubtedly the PartyGaming
situation. Additionally, the European Union has begun to more aggressively
pursue the new administration and lobby hard for a change in the legislation
that illegal forces foreign online casinos out of the US market – even the World
Trade Organization has sided with the foreign companies and demanded that the US
government alter the UIGEA to fall in line with international trade obligations.
Other situations arising on the landscape right now center on the efforts made
by Barney Frank to repeal and/or neutralize the UIGEA and instead bring out a
licensed and regulated US online casino gambling industry. Frank announced at
the beginning of the year his plans to reintroduce pertinent bills into Congress
in the month of April. Now May, Frank is still on the attack and still is now
pushing his primary bill in Congress that would legalize online casino gambling
and bring the US legislation in line with what the international community is
calling for.
As for the online casinos that were unfairly forced to leave the US gambling
market – despite some initial setbacks back in 2007, many of these major brands
that excited the market are now doing quite well and have managed to bounce back
from the setback. Some online gambling sites have refused to leave the US market
– many of these sites are now aggressively pursued by the US Department of
Justice and will face some heavy fines if executives or employees of the company
are caught on US property. |
