What are they Doing?
The UK double taxation policy on the land bingo gaming industry may be in its
twilight stages now that the issue has gained some pretty strong political
support. There are now several initiatives in place to make the British
government abolish the particular legislation that allows the land bingo
industry to be the only one with double taxation of revenues. The double
taxation has been in place for two years now and the bingo parlors are
increasingly crying out that they are not only losing gamers to the online
casino bingo industry but they are unable to operate at any sort of profit with
the current taxes in place.
There is a need for immediate reform of these laws that are allowing double
taxation to occur. According to the figures 2007 saw the closure of 37 bingo
halls across the UK because the operators were losing business to the online
casino bingo gambling venues which can offer better promotions because they only
pay one tax. With the support of the Scottish National Party the bingo industry
is very hopeful that this will lead to a faster reformation. The campaign in
Britain is going strong and though the online casinos and bingo sites are
benefiting from the closure of land bingo parlors, there is still an immense
amount of support from the internet gaming industry as well.
There is no indication though that all of the more aggressive campaigning taking
place will actually have any affect on making the British parliament change the
taxation structure on land bingo venues. The Treasury is not very sympathetic to
the cause and there is speculation that the online casino bingo industry will be
all that remains in the UK within the next year or two if the double taxation
remains in effect. |
