Not All Well
The online casino gambling industry does not have a wealth of supporters in the
Filipino gambling industry. In fact, there are many politicians and citizens
that are calling for a full and outright ban of all gambling sites and activity
within the Cagayan Export Zone (CEZ). Currently the CEZ allows certain companies
the right operate online casinos in a certain capacity and that fact is not
sitting well with everyone in the government now that the internet gambling
industry is generating more debate in on the global stage. The Asian market in
particular has been really quite hard to the online gambling sites to break into
and any previously successfully ventures in the Filipino market may be a moot
point in the coming weeks and months.
One of the biggest reasons that those in the online casino gambling industry are
worried is because of the powerful political opposition to internet gambling
that is now surfacing. Narciso Santiago, a representative for the Alliance for
Rural Concerns Party is raising the spread of online casinos as a huge concern
right now on the political stage and it could be his pressure alone that sinks
this ship for the internet gambling industry. Santiago is specifically looking
to pass legislation that would forbid gambling companies to use the internet for
the playing of any sort of gambling game, this includes betting, casinos, and
even the lottery.
As far as gambling is concerned, there will likely only be one organization able
to continue the processing of bets and gambling wagers in the Philippines and
that is the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. A chief concern right now
that is likely prompting the change is the clamor that underage gamblers are
finding their way to the online casinos. |
