Could It be True?
Congressman Barney Frank may be getting some support in his attempts from some
of the most unlikely places. News out of Utah indicates that one of the top
officials in Utah could be favoring the regulation and licensing of online
casinos rather than the no-mans land that is taking over the US at present.
There has been little support from Utah politicians in the past attempts to
repeal the UIGEA but the Utah Attorney General has done a bit of an about-face
with his announcements that he is going to support Barney Frank in his efforts
to bring regulated online casino gambling to the US market. And now that Frank
is gaining even more support like this some of the opposition is actually quite
taken off guard.
The fact of the matter is this, there was little indication previously that
Attorney General Mark Shurtleff supported the introduction of legalized and
regulated online casinos into the market, but that seems to bet the case now.
Bascially, Shurtleff has released communications and openly stated that because
of the ineffectiveness of a ban on internet gambling he sees the regulation of
the market as the only way to protect consumers from the dangers of a
black-market online casino gambling industry.
Barney Frank has announced in recent weeks his intention to once again bring a
bill before the House and Senate that would seek to overturn the UIGEA and
instead regulate and license the online casino gambling industry. Frank’s bills
have been gaining more and more support over the past two years and as he
continues to press the issue there is more and more indication that a bill just
might pass through – especially with the current administration in place.
