You Wont Gamble There
As more and more employees all over the world are distracted by the lure of the
internet and all that it offers – some companies are resorting to content
filtering software to block some of the sites that cause major distractions for
their employees. In this case, online casinos will no longer be accessible by
employees of Royal Dutch Shell while they are at work and using their work
internet. The online casino gambling sites can be a huge distraction for
gamblers who use their company time to gamble rather than fulfilling the work
obligations – or at least that is the theory coming out of upper level
management at Shell.
The Blogger News Network just announced that an employee at Shell leaked a copy
of the recent memo to the public. The new policy is designed to target just
three main categories of explicitly undesirable sites: gambling, pornography,
and nudity. The censorship of internet is not a new technique at major
corporations looking to increase the productivity of their employees. Often,
though, social networking sites take the brunt of the censorship rather than the
online casinos. In this case the recent Shell memo notes that the Internet
Content Filtering (ICF) will take place on the entire Shell internet network and
applies to all World Wide Web sites (WWW).
As for the company’s specific reasoning for the new censorship taking place, the
office memo sent out to notify employees of the changes notes: “This enhancement
will protect you from web-based security threats, and assist in your compliance
with the Code of Conduct.” So, although GambleCraft has just reported on some
major online casino bingo gambling wins from a player in the UK while he is at
work – that’s not likely to happen to any shell employees in the near future. |
