Strong Position on Online Casinos: 1
The debate about the US online casino gambling industry seems to have reached a
new plateau this week as the Competitive Enterprise Institue (CEI) released a
position paper that has some really valid points about the US internet gambling
industry and the power-trip that some US politicians are using the perpetuate
fear in the industry. One of the main points of the position paper notes that
although the US government asserts that internet gambling is illegal, the UIGEA
does not, in fact, make that the truth. The only power that the US government
has over the online casino gambling industry is through the processing of
financial transactions between internet gambling companies and US based banks
and financial institutions.
There are only two US states that have banned online casino gambling and made
the activity illegal, Utah and Washington State. The position paper goes on to
note that the US politicians that have pushed for the banning and blocking of
foreign online casinos are actually the reason that the industry is more
dangerous now than ever before. US politicians claim that banning the pastime is
the only way to protect US gamblers – but in fact other developed nations
throughout Europe have managed to regulate and license the internet casinos
without too much difficulty.
The paper asserts that much of the negativity that is associated with online
casino gambling and the dangers associated with the pastime have actually been
created and supported by the US governments UIGEA and the Department of
Justice’s prosecution of one of the safest payment processing companies
previously operating in the US market. |
