Taking a Stance
You wont be gambling in Cambodia any more now that the government has taken a
firm stance against both land and online caisno gambling. There have been heave
attempts lately in the Indo-China region to put a stop to the online casinos
that are illegally accessing Asian gamblers. But to take those efforts a step
further, Keat Chhon, the Minister of Finance in Cambodia, has announced that all
land gambling licenses that were previously issued in the country are all now
null and void. The order was effective immediately and that meant that land
casinos and betting venues that have been well established were forced to shut
themselves down virtually overnight.
There has been a big fight against the online casinos because of the prevalence
of this type of gambling – almost an overreaction of sorts as countries are
unable to adequately deal with the pressures to put a stop to illegal gambling.
For Cambodia, the decision to stop land gambling was very abrupt and has left
some operators not only angry, but protesting the closure of their business
without any warning.
The pressure to end online casinos also means that sportsbetting operations are
getting the ax – the government has taken a huge step to just of just a blanket
block on all forms of land and internet gambling. It really just leaves many in
the industry baffled and ready to rally in support of companies like Cambo Six
that have suffered some large financial losses as a result of the revoking of
Cambodian gambling licenses. |
