The Slow Approach
The online casino gambling companies in the US are looking to patent the “wait
and see” approach over the next several months as there are hopes that the new
administration will address some of the controversial gambling related
legislation that was pushed into effect at the end of the Bush administration.
The online casinos have decided to tactically change their plan with the current
administration – bullying and aggressive tactics were rampant with the previous
admin but a more honeyed approach seems likely this time around – at least in
the short term. In addition to just applying light pressure to the new admin,
internet casino gambling sites are looking to work with Congressman Barney Frank
on new congressional legislation that would neutralize the UIGEA.
The big issue right now though with foreign online casinos is the matter of
betting throughout the US. Foreign companies are expressly banned from
participating in this activity and the domestic and state-run companies are
winning out big in the long-run because of a lack of any real competition. The
legislative carve-outs in the UIGEA are what have really caused the most uproar
in the foreign online casino gambling community. The US didn’t simply withdraw
from the market, it protected the market for its own domestic gain.
Now though, despite the hard feelings that are still rampant throughout the
foreign online casinos, the companies are hoping that a softer and more
steadfast approach will appeal to this administration more. The gambling
companies are just looking for the Obama administration to come to the table and
discuss new possibilities for the online gambling industry – this is something
the Bush admin straight out refused. |
