A Bit of Light for Online Casinos
There may be good news on the horizon for the global online casino gambling
industry if China follows through with its talks about liberalizing gambling
laws. The Chinese market has been fabelized by the internet gambling industry
and is viewed a bit as the Holy Grail of gambling markets. With a downturning
economy, the online casinos are looking for new markets. But beyond that, the
Chinese government has been hit hard by the recession and might just turn to the
betting and gambling market as a way to stave off a serious recession. There is
a lot of money to be made in the land and online gambling industries and it
seems as though the recession has prompted new consideration from the Chinese
government.
Now, this doesn’t mean that the Chinese officials are envisioning a UK-style
liberalized online casino gambling market – baby steps. What is on the table
right now are discussion about liberalizing the lottery and betting on
horseraces. According to a Hebei delegate, the “present lottery games are
monotonous.” The delegate, Yang Jingzhi, proposes the deregulation of this
market and that the Chinese government embrace a more Western-style legislation
process over horserace betting and lottery games.
Land and online casino gambling have been banned fore more than fifty years in
mainland China, land gambling banned after the Communist takeover of the
country. It seems that all of the rumors that the Chinese market could be
opening may just prove true although it’s unfortunate that a recession had to
take place to prompt these changes. |
