A Benefit to Legislation
Frank Catania has been really firm on his point that the US needs new policies
regarding the online casinos, and ones that will save currently operating US
companies like the land gambling venues in Las Vegas and New Jersey. There is
certainly room in the market, despite the fears of some land gambling venues.
Catania also has a lot to say about some of the tired lines that the opposition
uses to continue the ban on foreign online casinos in the US market. There is no
reason to believe that the US government couldn’t really effectively license and
regulate the internet gambling venues much like the UK government has and
provide safety to underage and problem gamblers.
There are a lot of states though that have the exact opposite view as New
Jersey. The political right is steadfast in their opposition to online casino
gambling in the US right now, despite the fact that the current market is more
dangerous for gamblers than ever before. Catania really examines the issues
presented by the controversial and flawed Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement
Act (UIGEA).
Another key point of Catania’s is the fact that online casino gambling could
begin without any adjustments to the UIGEA. There is some controversy over
precisely what the UIGEA means and what sectors of the market have carve-outs,
but Catania contends that in-state internet betting is legal on the federal
level. The New Jersey gaming sites could use geoblocking technology to only
accept in-state gamblers and would therefore be within the limits of the UIGEA. |
