Going for the Hardballs
It may seem strange to tackle your strongest opposition when you’re looking for
support in the political arena, but that is just what the Poker Players Alliance
is aiming for with definite moves and appeals to some of the most die-hard
conservatives in Washington. Basically, the PPA, a lobbying group with the
legalization of the online casino poker gambling industry as its main concern
attended the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) last week with the
hopes of gaining a bit more support from the right side of the government. The
online caisno gambling issue has fallen out of favor a bit lately as the new
presidential administration has a lot on their hands with the current recession
and the state of the economy.
But that doesn’t mean that the PPA isn’t still wholly invested in the issue and
still making every effort to keep the spotlight on the controversy surrounding
the UIGEA and it’s questionable ethical banning of offshore online casinos and
internet poker companies from the US market. The PPA has the support of a
majority of Washington’s Democrats, and since that is the case the conservatives
have become a very large target for the PPA. Naturally then, CPAC, which is the
largest gather of political conservatives in Washington would attract the
attention of the PPA.
The PPA strongly feels that if it can gain even a bit of support from the
political conservatives on the issue of legalizing internet poker (the PPA
doesn’t necessarily lobby for the entire online casino gambling industry but
rather just the internet poker sector) that real change could be voted into
effect in Congress. Even though the PPA has been building support for more than
two years now, actual supporters in Washington still remains the key to success
for the online poker industry and its supporters. |
