Firmly Cracking Down on Online Casino Sites
The Kingdom of Cambodia has had an about-face on their gambling policies
recently to the effect that any and all forms of gambling, both on land and
through the online casinos are strictly banned. This came as a bit of an abrupt
announcement from the Kingdom’s Minister of Finance, Keat Chhon. Cambodia
actually had a pretty decent land gambling and betting system in place with only
a handful of companies holding valid licenses and able to operate everything
from slot machines to internet betting shops. That has now changed since Chhon
announced that all previously issued land and online casino gambling licenses
are no longer valid.
Just as surprising as the announcement that the government had reversed its
position on land and online casino gambling and betting was the similar
announcement that the termination of licenses was effective immediately. All
gambling and bookie shops were expected to comply immediately with the decision
to end land and online gambling, make social reform, strengthen public order,
and improve social morality.”
That’s all pretty intense, and as if it weren’t enough that major land betting
and gambling companies like Cambo Six were expected to close their doors
effectively immediately, Chhon succinctly stated his position on online casino
and land gambling companies not in compliance: “We will punish, in accordance
with the law, any business licensee who disrespects this declaration.” So far
those gambling companies affected seem to have submitted to the policies pretty
willing – there is no telling the long term actions of land and online gambling
groups. |
