No Cowing from US
The latest development in the iMEGA case is rather positive
for supporters of the US online casino gambling industry. iMEGA (the Interactive
Media Entertainmetn and Gaming Association) is still hard on the tails of the US
government with new legislation that seeks to amend parts of the controversial
UIGEA that apparently “overblock” some legal areas of the gambling industry.
Basically, iMEGA is looking to add some additional information and clarification
to the wording of the UIGEA that would prevent the “overblocking” of state
online lotteries – these efforts do not even involve specifically legalizing the
internet casinos but yet the US Department of Justice (DOJ) is attempting to
block this latest iMEGA initiative.
iMEGA is one of the several powerful US companies that is pointedly attempting
to bring an end to the UIGEA by proving its unconstitutionality. iMEGA even goes
a step further than just supporting initiatives that attempt to repeal the
UIGEA, it is one of the companies leading the fight in hopes that foreign online
casinos will have licensed and regulated access to the US market.
The current problem though is coming out of the individual states that operate
legal online state lotteries. As the US credit card companies and financial
institutions attempt to comply with the UIGEA regulations, they are
reclassifying many internet based transactions that could possibly fall under
the guise of online casinos and illegal internet gaming transactions. Lotteries
in many states have been controversially affected and iMEGA is now leading legal
efforts to force additional clarification of the UGIEA as it pertains to state
lotteries.
