Unsure if it's Happening
There has been a lot of confusion in the online casino gambling industry lately
as the Minnesota government has announced mixed information about a measure that
would call for the blocking of 200 internet gambling related sites. The main
criticisms are really coming from all sides as the measure really actually
affects not only the online casinos, but the internet industry as a whole.
Internet analysts anticipate that the US has been treading dangerous waters for
some time now with the UIGEA, but that is taking it all a little too far with
the blocking of internet content at the ISP level. The PPA is a huge supporter
of the online poker and gambling measures and the company has attempted to
waylay concerns with a statement that the Minnesota government had already
abandoned early attempts at this sort of controversial legislation.
A huge concern by the online casinos is the fact that the list of questionable
and potentially blocked internet gambling sites is shoddy at best. The list of
200 sites is not well-researched and has put a lot of the industry on alert. The
list was compiled by state enforcement director John Willems and was initially
sent out to all of the ISPs instructing them to thoroughly block all of the
online casinos and internet gambling related companies listed.
Here’s the big contention though –there is no consensus on whether this issue
has already been effectively handled or not. The PPA continues to assert that
the Minnesota government is no longer attempting to go the ISP route. But iMEGA,
an organization equally as credible as the PPA, announced that the issue is, in
fact, still a problem and a potential threat. |
