According to the Malaysian police data, raids conducted throughout the first
five months of this year have yielded the seizure of nearly 2,000 computers and
the arrest of 140 individuals implicated in the running of the gambling ring.
As an additional warning to the online casino gamblers themselves – the police
arrests include not only those running the illegal operation but customers are
also facing possible criminal charges for their involvement in the gambling
ring. The arrests and seizures are being made as a part of the Common Gaming
House Act of 1953 which makes gambling illegal in the country – fraudsters often
think that the pervasiveness and anonymity of the internet will keep their sins
a secret; the Malaysian police though are very thorough in their efforts to
eliminate internet gambling in the country. |
