Stats on Underage Gambling
Online casino gambling is a very appealing industry in these hard times because
of the large revenue streams and tax monies that internet gambling can bring to
a nation. But that is not always the only concern. Nova Scotia, a province of
Canada on the Atlantic Ocean, has been considering expanding its land gambling
operations into the realm of online casinos. The Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation
had some priorities first –solve the major issue of underage gamblers accessing
the gambling sites. Even though many internet gambling sites have identification
and blocking software in place to prevent underage gambling a recent study
indicated that underage gambling was a huge problem in the region.
The Gaming Corporation commissioned a study on the prevalence of underage
gambling at the online casinos and the results were startling. According to the
study’s results underage gamblers are making their way to the gaming sites three
times as often as adults. The CEO of the Corporation, Marie Mullally, further
explained the results of the study with the statistic that a whopping 19 percent
of 15 to 17 year olds admitted to underage gambling at the online gaming venues.
With the prevalence of underage online casino gambling so strong it behooved the
Corporation to work toward a solution of this issue before continuing efforts to
actually legalize internet gambling in the province. New software, BetStopper,
has been developed and tested and marks a revolutionary first step toward
solving the problem of underage gambling before the rates and figures become
entirely unmanageable and unstoppable. |
