Preventing Excessive Regulation
The opening of the French online casino gambling industry is really quite
exciting for so many internet gambling companies that have previously protested
the restrictive French legislation that created a veritable state internet
gambling monopoly. The government decided to open the French market to foreign
competition as of Spring 2010; as the government plans new regulations that will
govern the industry, foreign online casinos and internet gambling companies are
making moves to show the French authorities that heavy handed legislation is not
needed the internet gambling industry does have the ability and desire to
self-regulate to a large extent.
The government is there to provide the framework for a safe and honest online
casino gambling market, its the internet gambling companies themselves though
that have to have the impetus to practice responsible gaming if there is any
hope of a modicum of self-governance. An online media group, Geste, has
announced the implementation of two new charters for the internet casino
gambling industry that are designed to give the internet gambling companies a
say-so in their responsible gambling measures. The charters are also designed to
show the French government that the online casinos themselves do not want to be
silent they feel they should have some input as the new French gaming
regulations are developed and passed.
The two charters govern polices and actions at the online casinos and internet
gambling groups and state that, one, gaming sites must have technology and
policies in place for the thorough identification of underage gamblers. The
second charter targets the bonuses and incentive offers at so many internet
gambling companies French licensed operators must agree to offer only moderate
and honest offers. |
