Parenting Issue Too
Statistics and research in the New Zealand online casino gambling market
indicates that internet gambling is on the rise in the nation despite a very
apparent lack of regulations. New Zealand seems to be one of the last developed
countries to still be playing ostrich with the issue and analysts predict that
the government will have to address the possibility of regulating the market in
the very near future because of the number of problem gambling cases that are
arising in underage gamblers. Many of the highly credible online casinos are
supposed to have protocol in place to prevent underage gambling from occurring.
Unfortunately though, without proper regulation, there is no way to ensure that
all of the possible measures are being taken to prevent underage problem
gambling.
One startling piece of information coming out of New Zealand are the stories of
parents claiming that their teenagers are accessing the online casinos and
internet sites and spending upwards of 60 hours each week using the internet.
This indicates that underage addiction to internet gambling may be occurring,
but it also points to a larger problem that extends well beyond the internet
gambling industry too. Basically, 60 hours a week using in internet is just a
whole lot of internet time – and the parents play a role in this situation by
allowing their children to surf the internet and play online for that amount of
time.
At a time when teenagers should be studying for tests and passing their college
entrance exams, there needs to be a push in New Zealand that parents take an
active role in preventing their children from accessing the online casinos and
other illegal internet-based activities. |
