A Look a North American Online Casinos
The online casino gambling industry is North America as a whole is pretty tricky
– there is no need repeating the limiting restrictions placed on the US industry
by the UIGEA; that issue has been covered extensively on GambleCraft. As far as
Canada is concerned, internet gambling is just as questionable. The Canadian
government does not wholly support online casinos operating in the Canadian
market; on the flip side though is the situation with the autonomous region of
the Mohawk Nation. The Mohawks claim that the Canadian government has no control
over their online casino gambling actions because they are autonomous and
self-governing. Some politicians in the country feel otherwise but have to tread
lightly on the issue.
As Canada stands in a wishy-washy middle ground on the online casino gambling
issue the Kahnawake Gaming Commission continues to expand the level of gambling
coming in and out of Canada. The Gaming Commission licenses foreign online
casinos to operate in the international market and specifically does allow some
companies to operate in the Canadian market despite the Canadian government’s
efforts to place effective controls on the nation’s internet gambling.
The problem lies in the fact that the government has yet to come to a clear
consensus on the issue. The United States has banned online casinos as a part of
the UIGEA and the US government previously place mild pressure on the Canadian
government to follow suit with a gambling ban. Some in the government though
have taken a look at the international internet gambling issue and instead favor
revising Canadian legislation to include a legalization of the pastime and full
regulation. |
