A Kink in the Plans
The Poker Players Alliance suffered a bit of a defeat this week with the
announcement that the three online casino and poker gambling related bills that
were scheduled for hearings in just a couple of weeks are now delayed. The PPA
is one of the strongest organizations in the US in terms of the sheer number of
American citizens who have joined the PPA and loudly shouted out their support
for repealing the controversial UIGEA and instead licensing and regulating the
online caisno and poker gambling industries. The PPA announced that National
Poker Week next month and a scheduled rally were designed to coincide with the
hearing that was to take place.
The plans though have been foiled as the politicians voted to delay the hearing
until the fall and instead focus on the US economy. This is a pretty big blow to
the efforts of online casino gambling supporters all over the US. The scheduled
fly-in rally was supposed to descend on Washington in just a few weeks time and
inundate the city with a show of all of those US supporters who are demanding
the right to privacy within their own homes and the internet freedoms that are
considered inherent in the Western world.
With a wrench now thrown into the plans, there is no indication yet of how
large-scale the rally will be. There are still avid online casino supporters
willing to come out and voice their support, but others wonder if this rally
will just have to be repeated in several months time when and if the bills
actually make it up for a hearing. |
