History Behind the Race
It’s really easy for betting enthusiasts to get caught up in the frenzy and
drama of horserace betting whether they are at the online casinos or the land
betting venues. But there is a history there and lot has happened over the last
more than 100 years. The Belmont Stakes race is just a couple of days away right
now; taking place on June 6, 2009, this year’s final leg of the Triple Crown is
rightly drumming up a lot of excitement. Horse lovers and punters from all over
the world watch the three races of the triple crown with excitement –
internationally, punters also follow the horserace and test the odds during the
couple of months of horseracing mania. The history of the Belmont Stakes goes
all the way back to 1867 to a man and a horse.
The prestige of the Belmont Stakes has grown over the decades as the most
renowned equine talent is showcased each year at each of the three races. In the
beginning though, the race was named after August Belmont, a horseracing
enthusiast who acted as the first Jockey Club president. The Belmont horse and
the Jockey Club President shaped the horserace that would later entice gamblers
from all over the world to gamble at online casino bookies and land betting
venues.
Interestingly enough, the Belmont Stakes pre-dates all of the other major
ongoing horse races – this includes the Preakness as well as the famous Kentucky
Derby, the Pheonix Cup, and others. International online casino bettors are
traditionally most focused on the three races of the Triple Crown, but
horseracing enthusiasts likely follow all of the prominent horse races and bet
throughout. |
