Delayed Until the Fall
The whole of the US online casino gambling industry was pretty excited about the
prospect of an upcoming hearing for the three internet gambling related bills
that were up for discussion. Barney Frank has been spearheading the efforts for
years now and there was a glimmering of hope that one of the two bills regarding
the UIGEA and offshore online casinos was bound to pass. The hearing was
originally scheduled to occur in early July and the PPA had even rallied up the
forces to participate in a National Poker Week event to really drive home the
notion to politicians that the American public is demanding change in regard to
the US stance on offshore internet gambling. The latest news tough indicates
that the scheduled proceedings have been delayed to the fall at the earliest.
One of the main concerns right now in the United States is the economy and the
harsh economic recession that is affecting everyone throughout the US. There are
some critics who have noted that the Obama Administration is hiding behind the
economic crises so that he doesn’t have to make decisions on other issues like
the online casinos and even gay rights. There is no telling if that’s the truth
or not because the US really is still in an economic crises…but does that
justify the announcement that hearings for the three gambling related bills have
been pushed back to September at the earliest, and likely later?
In the past several months the online casino and poker gambling industry had
gained a lot of momentum for their causes. The PPA was activating all of its
network to come out and support the bills and now some of those efforts are for
naught. Those concerned with the online gambling issue surely feel as though
their cause is consistently getting the shaft from the government. |
