Costing a Lot
The US ban on online casino gambling has really had a wide-spread effect on the
US market even beyond the areas one might expect. The whole scope of the
internet gambling industry is lucrative –not only for the online casinos
themselves and the affiliates, but the advertising and search engine revenue is
a really big deal that is often overlooked. The US internet gambling market was
really thriving prior to the 2006 UIGEA; Google was making as much as $9.6
million each month off of search engine advertising when the UIGEA put a stop to
all legal US activity.
One of the points that is coming out right now is that the legalized US online
casino gambling market has the potential to create a lot more jobs than just the
directly related jobs that would crop up as the sites need to go through the
legalization and licensing process. All of the search engines are not only
loosing out on the millions of dollars annually that they were making off of the
online casinos, but the companies could potential produce a lot more jobs once
internet gambling is legal in the US market.
The recession has hit the US pretty hard and there are job shortages all over
the nation, and all over the world in fact. As the online casinos face these
losses in revenue that result from a lack of US market in addition to other
recession concerns, it’s just a shame to consider that the United States is
losing out on all of this potential revenue and job creation merely because of
some extreme right-wing politics that have prevented the repeal of the
controversial UIGEA. |
