It's Not Under Control
The land and online casinos in the UK have really prided themselves in the past
year or two because of their technology and identification systems that are in
place as a way to keep underage individuals from gambling. The land betting
industry was actually at the bottom of some of the shocking investigative
findings from the UK Gambling Commission’s recent “sting” survey. According to
the recently published results, UK bookmaking shops are nearly all essentially
allowing underage betting. One of the assumptions right now from within the land
and online casino gambling industry opines that the bookie shops are actually
nonchalantly disregarding the precautions and measures necessary to effectively
prevent underage gambling.
The Gambling Commission is assigned the task of monitoring the land and online
casino gambling industries to ensure that all companies operating in the UK
market are taking responsible gambling measures so that underage gamblers are
effectively prevented from participating in any form of gambling. This includes
the land bookie shops although there has been extensive international attention
placed on the online casinos operating within the UK.
The results are pretty disturbing, especially considering so much emphasis
really does make its way to the online casinos. Land bookie shops seem to have
much less stringent protocol in place. The research indicated that 98 percent of
the bookies did not really check the ID of underage gamblers and thus allowed a
17 year old to place bets at the establishment. There is no word yet on how the
Commission plans to resolve this obviously large flaw in the UK bookmaking
system of age verification. |
