The Three Online Casino Bills
There are a bevy of supporters for the US online casino gambling industry who
are voicing their concerns that the UIGEA is a flawed piece of legislation that
imposes on the personal freedoms of all Americans. There are three bills in
place right now that are going through the political motions and if they pass,
they would completely turn around the rather ridiculous situation that is now
upon US facing online casinos. Barney Frank has spearheaded the efforts and
there are three main bills that internet gambling supporters are putting the
weight of their influence behind. The three bills all deal with a separate part
of the gambling industry and how the legislation needs to be changed in the US.
The hearing for the three online casino and poker related bills has been
postponed for months, but the internet gamblers are still prepared to voice
their support. The first of the three bills would act as a stopping measure to
give the internet gambling supporters a bit longer to actually repeal the UIGEA
and pass new legislation. H.R. 2266, the Reasonable Prudence in Regulation Act
would delay the prohibition on offshore online casinos and poker gambling for
one full year. H.R. 2267, Internet Gambling Regulation Consumer Protection and
Enforcement Act, is the main thrust of the internet gambling efforts and
provides a legal regulatory framework for the licensing and implementation of
internet gambling.
The third bill, H.R. 2268, the Internet Gambling Regulation and Tax Enforcement
Act, is a companion to the second act and supports the legalization and
implementation of online casinos. This bill though adds an important step to the
process by adding the Tax legislation that would be needed to effectively reap
the tax benefits from a licensed internet gambling industry. |
