Hard to Believe
The recent stories out of Australia are pretty incredible; two separate
individuals have claimed major lottery winnings months and years after the
tickets actually hit the winning numbers. These are the types of stories that
just make everyone scratch their heads just a bit –how do you buy a lottery
ticket and then not check the numbers for a win!? An university student cashed
in a lottery ticket just this month that was 10-months old and valued at an
incredible A$13 million. Another winner took home slightly less lottery winnings
but considering the powerball jackpot was worth A$2 million four years ago, the
Australian woman (a grandmother) now receiving that huge sum is certainly
grateful she chose to clean out the house.
It seems that clutter was the cause of both of these lottery losses and spring
cleaning is the reason that both of these lottery winners were able to identify
and claim their million dollar wins. The university student case is fascinating.
The winning woman was given the lottery ticket by her father 10 months ago and
lost the ticket among school papers and paperwork. In the mean time, her family
has been undergoing some very serious financial problems and the woman was
worried about how to help. The father doesn’t play at the online casinos, rather
he concentrates his gambling efforts on winning the lottery.
When his daughter located the gifted lottery ticket and took it to the corner
store to be checked she was, needless to say, floored by the announcement that
she had won A$13, 185,273.
The winning ticket was dated for July 22, 2008 and the father spent just $8.60
to enter what was a $50 million lottery jackpot. There is really very little
information on what she plans to do with the winnings but naturally will likely
give a portion of it to her parents to not only support them, but also because
it was her dad’s $8.70 that won the lucky multi-million dollar jackpot.
