The Australian government is not playing around these days with its attempts to really crack down on the levels of land and online casino gambling in the state. Land betting is legalized throughout much of Australian and is controlled by the individual state governments. The government in Victoria just announced that Intralot breached its contract with the state and was subsequently issued a fine because of the contract breach. Land betting is really popular and Intralot is a major land betting provider in the state – online casinos are banned though and the government is very specific about the appropriate mediums that can be used to facilitate gambling in the state…and the country for that matter.

Intralot’s Australian division received a ten-year license from the State of Victoria in 2007 that specifically concerned television bingo gaming. Intralot would facilitate the live bingo game and tickets would be available to interested gamblers all throughout the state. The company though had a hard time running the live bingo games because the television stations in the state all refused to air the program at the chosen time. With this in mind, Intralot Australia chose to instead run the live bingo program through a popular Melbourne radio station.

That decision was a breach of the contract however and resulted in the first fine being issued to a land or online casino gaming company in the state. With internet gambling illegal right now the land betting venues receive all of the attention and scrutiny of the Victorian government.
