Protecting the Vulnerable
So much of the United State is gambling these days between the land and online
casinos and all of the internet lottery and sports betting options that are now
out there on the market. Congressman Jim Moran is looking for a way to address a
problem that is cropping up all over the US as a result of the rise in gambling
activity, problem gambling. This issue is a key source of debate in the US
online casino gambling industry, and although there is a lot of talk at the
Congressional level about problem gambling levels as a reason to block the
licensing of internet gambling sites in the US, others feel that the real issue
is to address the internet gambling issue itself.
Congressman Moran, Virginia-D, has announced a new proposal that is looking to
use federal resources to protect the vulnerable in the US, those prone to
gambling addiction whether it be from the land or the internet casinos, Moran is
really just looking to pass through legislation that will call for more research
on problem gambling treatments.
A lot of Americans in the US are avid gamblers – either at the online casinos
and poker gambling sites, or at the land gambling venues. Between lottery and
betting, there are just a lot of options out there. Moran contends that while
the majority of gambler are not problem gamblers, the US needs to really step up
the help efforts for those that do suffer from problem gambling tendencies.
Moran’s bill is supported by the National Council on Problem Gambling and the
bulk of his justification is that the US state and federal governments have the
unique opportunity to put aggressive counter measures in place before problem
gambling gets out of hand. There is every likelihood that the US government will
licensed and regulated online casinos in the coming years, and new treatment
efforts and research now is integral to maintaining limited and controlled
levels of problem gambling. |
