Malaysia Wont Tolerate Online Casinos
The Malaysian government has made international headlines over the past year
because of the government’s tough stance on online casino gambling and its
decision to ramp up police action so that the illegal internet gambling industry
is almost entirely eliminated in the country. Malaysian police have raided a lot
of illegal online casino gambling and betting rings that were on the police
radar for some time. Next up on the crackdown are the cyber cafes in the
country. According to Malaysian statistics as many as 90 percent of the cyber
cafes in the country are illegally running some sort of online casino gambling
operation. The government has now issued a warning to these cyber cafes that
illegal internet gambling activity in the country will result in legal action.
The minister has issued a warning that the strong efforts to remove the unsavory
element of online casino gambling from the country will continue and that will
include the raiding and arrest of anyone involved in illegal internet gambling
activity at the cyber cafes. The government specifically licenses the internet
cafes with particular licenses and now feels betrayed by the fact that these
cafes are, across the board, allowing illegal online casino gambling activity.
The initial survey of the internet cafes in the country indicated that the 90
percent figure represents the cafes that have some type of illegal online casino
gambling software downloaded and installed into the computers. The government
will not tolerate the situation and again notes that an organized and strong
crackdown is coming and that this should serve as a warning to the cafes still
choosing to break the law. |
