Online Casinos a Risk
The US online casino gambling industry is one of the most contested markets in
the world right now. European and international internet gambling companies
would certainly like a piece of the US market but the UIGEA is a piece of
legislation that allows the US government to actively pursue any online casinos
and payment processors that are offering internet gambling to US players – and
with hefty fines attached. For that reason many of the largest brands have moved
out of the US industry and completely taken the ensuing business losses. Others
though continue to operate for US online gamblers even though the US government
is making it increasingly difficult to process funds for US gamblers.
One of the key components to the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UGIEA)
is the fact that the legislation does not allow the government to prosecute and
punish citizens themselves for the internet gambling activity. Basically, if a
US gambler can find an online casino willing to accept them, there is no federal
danger to gambling on the sites (some states do have criminal charges related to
internet gambling activity) for the citizens. This has meant that some online
casinos and brands are still operating strongly in the US market despite the ban
– but processing the payments of US players is a bit tricky.
US online casino gamblers have to realize that gambling at the sites is a risk
right now. The US government is dead-set of stopping illegal US internet
gambling operations and one of the cornerstones of the UIGEA is the blocking of
payment processors. For that reason, the situation that is happening in
California is likely to occur more often. |
