The World Bank seems to be lending a hand to the internet gambling industry
these days with speeches and warning issued to those countries that are
supporting protectionist trade policies and blocking the foreign online casinos
and internet gambling sites. Protectionist policies and state-run gambling
monopolies are one of the biggest foes that the internet gambling sites are
fighting these days and the support from the World Bank on curbing the problem
is definitely generating some interest from the industry. The online casino
gambling companies have faced this issue on an international level, not just in
South America where the World Bank addressed its most recent comments.
The World Bank supports open and free trade amongst the countries of the world
and encourages nations all over the world to consider the wisdom of keeping
trade agreements in all industries, not just those that are most lucrative.
Namely, the online casinos are often targeted because individual nations do not
want competition from state-run monopolies that are generating a lot of money
for the state government. The World Bank has also played a pretty strong card at
the Chile conference, noting that nations that choose to use protectionist
policies will only worsen and extend the recession.
Importantly, many nations consider the online casino gambling industry to be
outside the bounds of international trade agreements, that is not the case
though. The World Bank has the support of the internet gambling industry as it
attempts to convince other nations that it is in their best interest to pass
fair and inclusive gambling regulations. |
