Will it Hold
A new bill in Pennsylvania has a lot of support in the government, but it is
unclear if the bill will actually hold up in the long-term under the scrutiny of
the Supreme Court. The problem being that the SC already addressed the issue in
a previous ruling that over-turned previous legislation that was extremely
similar in nature. The new law seeks to wholly put a stop to campaign
contributions from executives in the land and online casino gambling industries.
The SC ruled that completely blocking the right to make campaign contributions
was taking the effort too far…but yet here the Pennsylvania government is once
again, and this time the bill has even tighter controls in place, and they even
control restrictions on the lawyers and government employees looking to move
into the gambling industry after state employment.
The new law seeks to take control over corruption and essential bribery.
Pennsylvania has an ever growing land casino gambling industry thanks, in part,
to the campaign contributions to political parties that support the gambling
cause. There is a lot of room for corruption in the land and online casino
gambling industries when there are no controls on campaign contributions, but
perhaps this effort, a complete ban is taking the effort a bit further than
necessary.
If the Pennsylvania government is hoping to protect the government and
politicians from the machinations of the land casinos and executives, then
perhaps a lighter but still controlling law would serve the state better.
Basically because there is a strong chance that this law can be overturned if
case precedence is used to apply the previous SC decision to the new
Pennsylvania law that has a very strong chance of passing. |
