Poker Still a Go
There were thoughts this month that the National Gambling Week that has been
planned by the PPA for some time now might actually be canceled because of the
Congressional decision that now delays the scheduled hearing for the online
casino gambling related bills that were supposed to occur this week. The
hearings have been delayed until the fall or later but the PPA plans to still
keep the National Poker Week festivities operating according to the plan. This
is the first year that the event will take place and the Poker Players Alliance
chose to announce the week-long poker focused event at the celebrations for the
40th World Series of Poker that is just now concluding. The Poker Week will
invite supporters from the land and online casino poker week to take place in
scheduled activities and to really focus on spreading the word during the week,
July 19th through the 25th.
The announcement of this big Poker Week was an honored event as the major
players from the PPA, Alphonse D’Amato and John Pappas were joined by US
Represenative Shelley Berkley and other key politicians and figures who openly
support the US online casino and internet poker gambling industries. These key
figures addressed the poker supporters attending the event and announced the
general reason behind launching the National Poker Week.
Basically, the PPA is more than one million members strong and the organization
feels that each and every voice in the PPA and all across the United States
deserves to be heard – they are demanding that the US address the controversial
regulations that block offshore online casinos and pass more favorable
legislation for the internet poker industry. |
