In Comes the Euro
The United States online casino gambling market is no longer that by which all
things are measured. There was certainly a time where the US internet gambling
industry had the main thrust of international focus because of the extremely
lucrative market potential. Now though, the US has banned offshore online
casinos from accessing US players and many of the largest software developers
and gambling sites have taken their cue and left the US market. It has taken
well over two years, but the rest of the internet gambling industry finally
seems to have accepted that the US Dollar is no longer the currency of choice
now that there are few US gamblers in the industry. Mircogaming has announced
that the company’s Poker Network has now switched over to the Euro as the main
currency.
This means that all tournaments on the network will now take place in Euro
rather than USD. Microgaming is one of the first companies to make this
transition but it is anticipated that many other online casinos and gambling
sites will make a similar move in the coming months as the new and anticipated
US legislation continues to stall in congress. Microgaming is one of the top
software development companies in the world and certainly an industry leader in
the innovation department.
As the US market continues to shun online casinos and internet gambling sites
and maintain the ridiculous and controversial UIGEA the rest of the world is
adjusting and moving on. A lot of the poker industry previously ran on the US
Dollar because of the sheer percentage of the market that came out of the US.
Now that that is no longer the case it makes sense to switch over to the Euro
and cater to the largest demographic on the sites right now. |
