UK Responds to Corruption
The online casino gambling and betting industry has a new watchdog organization
from the UK government that will be closely monitoring the betting companies to
ensure that integrity in the UK and global sporting industry remains in tact.
There have been several reports recently that the integrity of some sports have
been compromised by alleged fixed games concerns. It happened in most recently
in tennis, at the Wimbledon competitions and the Betfair was forced to recommend
an investigation to the International Tennis Federation’s Integrity Unit. In
response to this event, and in light of the growing concern, the Sports Minister
in Britain, Gerry Sutcliffe has announced the appointment of Rick Parry to act
as the head of a newly formed advisory panel that will solely focus on
monitoring the sporting industries and looking for ways to ensure and maintain
the integrity of sporting events.
The Sutcliffe announced this new panel because of the pending danger of
corruption in sports. The issue has really hit the headlines in the past couple
of months and it has been made apparent to the government that the legislation
that so closely monitors the online casinos and internet betting venues, also
needs some protections on the other side – the internet betting companies can
only do so much to monitor and prevent corrupt betting.
Sutcliffe is confident that the government will be able to nip this issue in the
bud right now, before it has gotten out of control with early intervention.
Parry, the new panel head, is the former CEO of the Liverpool football team and
thus has a lot of experience in the sports industry. He has agreed to use his
knowledge of the sports industry to work on the panel and fight corruption in
the online betting industry. |
