Civilizing China
The online culture has really altered the face of the entire world. Technology
gurus can spout all of the tangible benefits of a connected world – but one of
the top reasons to love the internet is the fact that every voice can be heard.
The Chinese government has recently attempted a gross censorship of the internet
using the online casino gambling argument as impetus for new laws that, if
passed, will filter a citizen’s access to the internet directly on their
computers. The Chinese government is not elected in China and the ruling party
right now is being kept in check by the internet voices of the online
generation.
Some analysts theorize that one of the reasons that the Chinese government is so
moderate is because it is kept in check by the spread of information that comes
out of the online sphere. Bloggers and Chinese citizens are able to have their
voices heard by using the internet to spread the message to the rest of the
world.
There has been a lot of opposition to the current political party and because
there is no media oversight in the nation, it is sometimes hard for the rest of
the world to know what is going on in China. One of the key ways to assess the
stability of the country and the support of the people is through internet
channels and the online community. So although the government is trying to block
online casinos and thus internet content, the Chinese citizens now have power to
affect change through their internet voices. |
