Skill Versus Chance Again
The poker gambling industry has one main claim that it asserts separates the
game of poker from the land and online casinos. Poker gambling is a game of
skill while the internet casinos are primarily games of chance. This main debate
is of the key reasons that the poker gambling enthusiasts assert that the game
should be legal all over the world. The issue is prominent in the US where the
UIGEA currently lumps internet poker in with online casino gambling sites, and
it is showing up in Israel right now as the Israeli Poker Federation fights the
police in a court battle to allow a major annual land poker tourney. The police
annually issue the IPF with a permit to operate the poker gambling tournament.
This year however, the police refused to issue the permit and claim that the IPF
may not operate the land poker tourney.
The IPF has taken the issue to the courts now and are hoping that the judge will
make a clear ruling on the situation quickly. The tournament was scheduled to
occur in just a week, and there are rumors that it will go off whether or not a
permit is obtained. There are three guidelines for games of skill that are
played in the country, and as long as the IPF ensures that the tourney follows
that set guidelines there is speculation that there is nothing the police can do
about the situation.
The IPF has not only taken the issue to the courts, but has obtained information
and baking from a professor at an Israeli University who confirms that Texas
Hold’em poker is primarily a game of skill versus a game of luck like online
casino games. The theory holds true that strategy, skills, and knowledge win out
over pure luck as the game is played in a tournament format particularly. Plus,
all of the money is paid up front, before the game even begins rather than games
of chance that allow gamblers to wager past their threshold. |
