Looking to Brussels
The structure of power in the European Union has really changed quite
interestingly over the past several years and more and more of the major
meetings and huge decisions are coming out of Belgium. The online casino
gambling industry is certainly looking to Belgium a lot these days in the hopes
that the European Parliament will get cracking on forming a set of EU rules to
oversee the internet gambling industry. The European Commission has been
operating without a lot of support from the government in its attempts to stop
the monopolies and the EU governments that are blocking and banning foreign
online casinos from the market.
Right now is a key time in the European market, there are several major emerging
gambling industries that have just opened because of new regulations. Both Spain
and France are on the cusp of allowing foreign online casinos and betting sites
into the market. And at this key juncture in the industry, as previously closed
and monopolized markets are emerging into the EU economy with their gambling
industries, those same online casino and internet gambling sites are asking the
EU Parliament to offer up assistance in the way of a formalized set of rules.
If the EU were to pass new regulations in regards to the online casino gambling
industry there would certainly be a bit more respect provided to the European
Commission in its continued efforts to negotiate with those nations that are
still running state monopolies and still prosecuting and penalizing EU listed
gambling sites that operate within their closed markets. |
