Online Casinos are the Big Issue
For some reason the online casino gambling industry makes a rogue out of more
than a dozen of the traditionally compliant European Union member-states that
traditionally tow the line and reap all of the benefits of EU membership. But
the issue of foreign online casinos accessing state markets is really becoming a
major sticking point for many of the countries as the European Commission
continues to investigate the countries and issue threats and warnings. The
problem is, although the Commission asserts that the EU policy applies to
internet gambling, there are nearly a dozen countries that are insisting on
their right to operate online gambling monopolies.
The Commission has not conceded one iota on this issue, yet for years now
countries like Sweden, Scandinavia, and others have blatantly refused
compliance. There are countries that are making millions annually from the
operation of state gambling monopolies and do not want to share those profits
with the foreign online casinos. Now, that is not to say that all of the nations
are not in compliance, some have finally succumbed to the negotiations and
threats from the Commission and are on the way toward a more level playing field
and an open market.
One of the most frustrating factors of the whole situation is the fact that the
countries keep changing up the game and adding to the list of countries that the
European Commission has to both watch and then negotiate with. Italy and France
have heard the reason of the Commission on the online casino gambling issue and
chose to voluntarily alter there internet gambling regulations without involving
the European Court of Justice in the matter. |
