Working with the Banks
The recent news out of Malaysia is really quite riveting when looked at from a
global perspective. The Malaysian police have really be cracking down on illegal
online casino gambling in the Malaysian market with a lot of effort put forth to
stop internet gambling. But apparently the Malaysian officials aren’t paying too
much attention to the international online industry news from the foreign online
casinos, particularly in regards to the methods of controlling the internet
gambling industry. The Malaysian police announced a plan to work with the
country’s national bank in an effort to stop internet gambling at the financial
transaction level.
The only big problem with this announcement is the fact that this same solution
has been tried by several countries, the US in particular, and it has failed
spectacularly at adequately controlling access to the online casinos. The
problem is, there are ways for individual gamblers to circumvent the banking
controls by using other options for cashing out. Even with that in mind though,
the Malaysian authorities are determined to implement this new method as a way
to continue thwarting the online casino gambling industry’s presence in the
Malaysian market.
One of the really interesting aspects of the situation is the fact that the
prohibition of online casinos in Malaysia has had the same effect that it did in
the US –it forced the industry deep underground rather than forcing the sites
out of the market. The Malaysian government consistently asserts that the
internet gambling sites are risky for citizens and invites crime, money
laundering, and other undesirables into the country. |
