The Unfair Advantage
The US market is one of the most controversial points of interest in the online
casino and poker gambling industries. Those at the top of the industry are
urging the EU to take action against the US government and resolve the fact that
foreign sites are specifically discriminated against in US internet gambling
legislation. And while this is a huge issue facing the industry, another
pressing concern for some online casinos and gambling groups is the issue of the
unfair advantage given to those sites still choosing to operate in the US market
despite the restrictions and regulations.
Party Gaming is one of the European based companies that chose to immediately
back out of the US market once the US government passed the UIGEA. The Party
Gaming online casino and poker gambling group suffered some huge upfront losses
with its withdrawal from the US market but saved itself from possible
prosecution from the US Department of Justice. Party Gaming’s main rivals in the
online poker industry however have continued to operate in the US market – this
means that the companies are benefiting from a much broader base of gamblers and
subsequently able to offer larger tournaments.
The unfair advantage though may only last so long. Party Gaming is planning some
very strong marketing initiatives for the online casino gambling group’s poker
site, Party Poker. The company plans to really focus on brand expansion in the
European market throughout the next year. Additionally, once the US market
re-opens for internet gambling, Party Gaming will have no strikes against it in
terms of perhaps one day obtaining a US internet gambling license. |
