US Payout System
The United States market has been off-limits for more than two years at this
point – yet there are still a handful of prominent online casinos and poker
gambling sites still offering gambling services within the US market. Bodog is
one of the more controversial companies operating for US players – and the most
successful. The UIGEA had a hugely negative affect on the foreign online casino
and poker gambling industry. Bodog, though, was basically unaffected by the
regulation changes in the US – the company has continued to offer reliable
online poker gambling to players in every US state. Even more importantly though
is the fact that Bodog is able to consistently payout winnings to US gamblers.
A Maltese newspaper article recently analyzed the Bodog situation from the point
of view of the small island. Reports from the US media and others in the online
casino gambling industry have pointed at Malta as one of the main reasons that
Bodog is still able to operate within the US market. Allegedly, Bodog founder
Calvin Ayre operates a business out of Malta that receives payments from US
online casino gamblers. That Maltese business then wires monies to other
companies that operate outside of the US government’s and the banking industry’s
radar. Basically, US online poker gamblers receive payments by check, and the US
banks accept the checks because they are not directly issued from a foreign
internet gambling company.
The article highlights on the fact that Bodog is able to still make payouts to
online caisno and poker gamblers. The US media has covered this fact extensively
though. Of particular interest is the convoluted system of wires and money
transfers that Bodog uses to secure release payments to US gamblers. Although
the US government has allegedly seized more than $24 million from Bodog the US
Department of Justice has had a very difficult time penetrating the complex Web
of payments that Bodog uses for US players. |
