Some Support for Online Casinos
The land gambling industry in the United States is still stuck at an impasse
this week despite hopes from the online casino gambling industry that a
pro-internet gambling position would come out of the latest discussions. The
American Gaming Association represents all of the major land gambling companies
operating in the United States and works to then lobby the government and create
initiatives that benefit and support the interests of the land casino gambling
industry. The latest issue that has been a growing concern in the United States
is the issue of online casino gambling. Internet gambling has the potential to
both hamper and benefit the land gambling venues – it’s all a matter of
perspective.
Over the past year, as the online casino gambling issue has cropped up in major
Congressional debates and discussions, the AGA has remained largely neutral
about the Association’s position on the legalization and licensing of the online
casino gambling industry. The AGA board meeting in December though was the
perfect opportunity for the members to discuss the legalization of internet
gambling and their position on the situation. Unfortunately, all of the land
casinos were not able to come to a unified POV on the legalization of internet
gambling and the AGA is still torn about whether to support online gambling
initiatives or to attempt to block new legislation.
There were many in the online casino gambling industry truly hoping that the
current economic recession and increased strain on the land gambling venues
would soften the companies’ views toward the legalization of the internet
gambling industry – that hasn’t been the case however and besides a few casinos
that are eager to launch into the US internet gambling industry, there is little
support coming out of the AGA. |
