Payout for Player
Lately it seems as though malfunctions and misinformation is the name of the
game in the land and online casino gambling industry. From a player in New
Zealand who found out her huge slot machine win was actually a malfunction to
the lottery player in Canada who’s ticket was misprinted, there have been quite
a few mix ups in the past several weeks. The New Zealand situation ended when
the slot machine was fixed and the win was for a much less sum, the player
relented and noted that she was just happy to have won. But not all land and
online casino gamblers take defeat quite so quietly. The Canadian lottery player
who thought he won $135,000 from his four scratch-card tickets pursued the issue
with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation – that has now resulted in a
settlement for the gamble.
The lottery officials in Ontario have subsequently recalled all of the remaining
scratch-card tickets and have definitively stated to other lottery players that
they will not receive similar payouts. It’s a tricky situation for the lottery –
like land and online casinos, the lottery relies on gambler believing that they
have the opportunity to win huge sums of money – the corporations and businesses
will do almost anything to preserve that image. But for the lottery officials,
the misprinted tickets have created quite a furor and the lottery is not willing
to make settlements with any other players.
The player in question received the settlement agreement with the OLG officials
because he had been continually fed misinformation when the situation was first
unfolding. The land and online casino gambler happened to purchase four of the
misprinted scratch-cards and when he called the lottery officials to see if they
would honor the win he was told yes – yet he is the only one who was given that
information and as such his case is unique from the rest of the misprinted
cards. |
