Online Casinos Request a Leveling
The online casino gambling industry is quite less than impressed with the
developments within the Swedish monopoly situation. The European Commission and
the requests of foreign internet gambling companies has seemed to have very
little effect on the state of Swedish gambling. Sweden authorities seem to only
be budging on the issue enough to placate the Commission and ensure that they
are not reported to the European Court of Justice. As for the online casinos –
they are fed up with the ongoing issue and just request that the Swedish
government take down the monopolistic regulations and instead level the playing
field for foreign competition.
Sweden lost a lot of face in the international online casino gambling community
when the Swedish National Gambling Consultation announced its opinion that only
sportsbetting open up to foreign competition. The Swedish government is
attempting to preserve portions of the monopoly under the auspice that it’s all
in the name of protecting the land and online casino gamblers.
It just seems ludicrous that the Swedish gambling monopoly is still an ongoing
concern and problem – the European Union policies of free trade of goods and
services between EU member states mandates that companies like Ladbrokes, Will
Hill, Paddy Power, and others have equal rights and access to the Swedish land
and online casino gambling market. Regulations to the contrary are straight out
in violation despite any argument the Swedish government puts forth – a level
playing field is mandated and the European Commission really ought to take a
stronger stance with nations like Sweden…this has gone on for several years at
this point and weak attempts at resolution are only causing frustration within
the online casino gambling industry. |
